Week 4 of ASK Cosmetics Skincare Challenge

Upon reading Leslie's initial email (sent in Jan 15th, 2013) I just knew she would be a great candidate for the ASK Cosmetics skincare products.  This is what she wrote, you can see from the before pictures that her hands look terribly rough, dry, chapped and painful.

For the past couple of years my hands have became extremely rough. I believe it started after I had my first son. I started washing my hands more frequently and I guess using off brand/cheap hand wash my hands started cracking and become rough. I have since tried using different brands of hand wash and nothing seems to help. I even have tried different hand lotions to try and get them back smooth. At first the lotion seems to make them smooth but after it dries my hands are back to the way they were.

My hands are so bad they even crack and bleed around my knuckles which are not as bad as the palm of my hand and around my fingers. My two boys and my husband tell me when I touch them that my hands are so rough that it scratches them. Which is a horrible feeling for a mom to not try and touch her children. I still do I just put lotion on my hands real quick and then touch there face or arms.

The biggest challenge is when we go to a store and I have to hold my sons hand to cross the road he refuses because first he thinks he is a big boy and second he always tells me that he doesn't like the way my hands feel. My husband well that is a different story about my hands being rough.

My hands are getting cracks so much they get a little sore at times, if that makes sense, especially when my knuckles start to bleed. When I bend my fingers it gets little sore because as you can see in the pictures that is where the cracks are the worse on my hands. Also, I have a Himalayan cat which I pet all the time. I think I could be her brush because every time I pet her I get a lot of her hair all over my hands. Her hair just sticks to my hands.

I would like to take this challenge because I would love to have my soft hands back. Not only for myself but also for my family to tell me I have soft hands and they would love for me to touch them. Most importantly for myself and not to suffer anymore from crack hands that are so rough and bleed. But also to feel good again about myself. A woman loves to be pamper and this would be my way of pampering myself!

Thank you,  Leslie

A great update (sent in Feb. 24th, 2013) and fantastic results after 4 weeks of applying ASK Cosmetics skincare products.....

Photo taken after 4 weeks for using the products
Hi Lisa,
I have uploaded week fours hand pictures for you to look through. I am just amazed that in four weeks my hands are looking great! I am truly loving these products and I can't wait to share the news to my family and friends about them. I have just had rough hands the past couple of years and now in a few weeks my hands are finally getting back to the way they should be. A big thanks to your company. I will update you in another week.
Thank you,  Leslie

Sensai Sponge Chief by Kanebo

The SENSAI Sponge Chief by Kanebo International comes in a resealable plastic envelope.

Unfortunately this photo is not clear enough to read the instructions on the reverse side, so here they are:
SENSAI Sponge Chief
for Make-up Removal
The ecological and hygienic solution for quick, deep, yet gentle removal of cleansing products and facial masks.  To use, simply moisten with water and wipe the face.  After use, wash with soap and water.  Allow to dry in open air; towel will harden, but immersion in water will give it back its soft and silky touch.  Use the convenient case, when travelling.

It is remarkably soft to the touch and so gentle on your skin.  For maximum cleansing strength I recommend the Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada.

Gentle enough for a baby's bottom, yet strong enough to get rid the worst grease and grime on a mechanic's hands!

Have you ever heard or used products by Kanebo International before?

Thanks for stopping by.  Til tomorrow, Lisa M.

Healthy & Enhancing Skin Care Challenge in on!

In January ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada reached out to all those who suffer from very dry, irritated skin offering them a chance to become a participant in the first skin care challenge.  They were sent an assortment of skin care products sponsored by ASK Cosmetics and were provided with detailed instructions on how to apply these items for maximum benefits.

Today I would like to share the first impressions after one week of applications sent to me by two participants:  Leslie and Jackie.

Leslie's Story.....

Before photos of Leslie's right hand - dry, chapped, irritated and very painful with some bleeding

Leslie's First Progress Report reads:
Hi Lisa,
I have attached a few pictures of my hands. I now have been using the products for 6 days and I can tell a difference in them.
First, my hands are not as rough as they used to be. I love the way the lotion makes my hands feel like silk after I use the product. Also, the silk feeling I think seems to last longer than using regular hand lotion.
Secondly, my knuckles have stopped bleeding. Now my hands around my fingers are still dried out and rough but nowhere near what they were a week ago.
I can't wait to see how the products continue to change the appearance of my hands. I will send you another update and pictures in another week. Also, can you use these products on your face? My face does get dry in the winter months and it's hard to keep it from drying out.
Thank you,
Leslie

After 6 days of applying the skin care products by ASK Cosmetics Inc.

Jackie's Story.....

Before picture taken and sent in January 2013

Jackie's First Progress Report reads like this:

Lisa,
I've been using the products as instructed since January 31. Below are some pictures I've taken. You can visibly see that I have a split in my skin on the left side of my thumb. I also have a less severe split on my finger. I started using the TIPS for Toes on the splits several times a day and at night before bed and I have to tell you that it is remarkable. Although it doesn't have any numbing agents, the splits instantly stop hurting the moment I apply it. It absorbs quickly enough for me to apply the lotion after.
The soap leaves my hands feeling clean without over drying them.
Now for the lotion. It is the only lotion I have ever used that thoroughly moisturizes without feeling greasy. The lotion actually absorbs completely. My hands have never been this soft and healthy in the winter. For as long as I can remember, my hands have suffered dry, cracked, painful winters. I have tried countless creams, lotions, even oils with little or no results. At night I would cover my hands in aquafor or Vaseline and sleep wearing gloves just to try to heal them for the following day. But it never failed, by night my hands were dry, cracked and painful again. Since using the Revival system, I have noticed a drastic difference. At night my hands are not dry. They keep the moisture without the grease!
I will continue the updates and keep taking pictures.
Thank you,
Jackie

After 1 week of using the Revival Skin Care System by ASK Cosmetics.

All participants in the Healthy & Enhancing Skin Care Challenge were provided with 3 important items:

Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser for the mildest hand washing possible (for more details on this product click here:  Best tips for washing your hands the gentle, healthy way);

Revival Skin Conditioning Milk for soothing nourishment for their skin without the unhealthy, unnatural waxes and silicones (for more info on this product click here:  ASK Cosmetics Skin Care - to the rescue!);

Last but not least participants were given a bottle of TIPS for Toes with the instructions to apply a bit to all the severly cracking, dried out areas of their hands.  People are sceptical when I tell them to do this, but it works wonders!!

ASK Cosmetics offers "travel size" bottles of the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk and the Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser so you won't have to leave home without it.  The bottles are very convenient to take along in your purse.

All ASK Cosmetics products are available:  on their website/webshop, The Shopping Channel in Canada, QVC in the USA or by calling toll-free 1-877-275-5566 to place an order.

Healthy and Enhancing Skin Care Challenge

If you are someone who has to deal with dry, irritated skin, you might want to join the "Healthy and Enhancing Skin Care Challenge" sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada.  This is the first time for such a challenge.  To date ASK Cosmetics has staged 2 finger nail transformation challenges and one for toe nails, all of which were huge successes.  The participants were very pleased with the results they achieved.  So, now we would like to try a new challenge using our skin care products.

So, if you would like to take the challenge and improve your skin with ASK Cosmetics, please read and follow the below-listed instructions carefully.  And just remember.....

Good skin is always in!

We expect and encourage all participants to be active and post comments when their photos are shared. That’s what our fans and followers like to read.

Step 1: Take a picture of your skin (preferably your hands) or any dry, irritated, reddened areas that need some intensive moisturization.

Step 2: Write a detailed description of the condition your skin is currently in, and why you would like to take this challenge. The more detailed the better!

Step 3: Send me your postal address, the photos and your write-up describing your skin's condition to: lmueller@askcosmetics.com

Step 4: If you are one of the participants chosen by ASK Cosmetics to take part in the "Healthy and Enhancing Skin Care" Challenge, you will be sent a release form to be signed and returned within 10 days. This form states that you agree to allow use of your photos and comments to be shared on our Facebook page, blog site and/or other social media platforms by ASK Cosmetics AND you agree to follow the stipulations set up as part of this challenge.

·     Each of the participants chosen will receive all the necessary skin care products for their specific needs and full instructions in order to achieve best possible results.

So, if you think you are eligible and would like to embark on a total fortification and enhancement of your skin from head to toe, get cracking and take some photos, jot down some details about your skin and the problems you have encountered with it. I will be accepting participants from Jan 10th to 30th, 2013. International participation welcome! The dirty, honest truth.....about make-up brushes

Have your make-up brushes been cleaned lately?

I'm sure most of us make-up wearers are guilty of neglecting to wash out our make-up tools, which can lead to the following problems:

*  "Make-up brushes can accumulate bacteria, dust and dirt, all of which permit the growth of further bacteria.  This can aggravate underlying skin conditions like acne,"  Manhattan dermatologist Julie Karen, M.D. states.

*  Sonia Kashuk explains that creams left to dry can stiffen the bristles and affect the suppleness of natural hairs.

*  If your brushes aren't clean, you will not get the true colour showing up on your face.

You might have your own routine, which I would you to share in the comment section below.  This is mine:

Step 1:  I always do the chore of cleaning my brushes at night.

Step 2:  Choose a gentle soap or shampoo to get these tools spic and span again.

Step 3:  Run some warm (but not hot) water in your bathroom sink adding a dab of soap/shampoo.

Step 4:  Immerse your brushes/tools in the soapy water and let them soak for a few minutes.

Step 5:  When you think they're clean, squeegee out the water and lay them flat to dry.

Step 6:  Leave them on the towel to dry out over night and by morning they should be good to go.

Your skin (and perhaps your make-up also) will thank you.  Everything will feel clean going on and that's the way it should be.

How often do you clean your make-up brushes?

Thanks for stopping by,  Lisa M

Got dry hands?

Q:  My hands always get dry and peel in the winter.  What can I do to prevent this?

Your skin becomes dry when it loses two things:  its natural oils and water.  To remedy this, you need to pay attention to how you wash as well as moisturize them.

Why it happens.....  The air in a harsh, windy winter climate is often dehumidified, which means it doesn't just pull moisture out of the environment but your skin as well.  Using indoor heaters has the same effect.  In addition, people tend to wash their hands more often during cold and flu season, and exposure to harsh soaps and solvents can strip your skin of its oils.

Wash carefully.....  Try to only cleanse the palms of your hands and rinse well, as soap residue is drying and irritating.  Choose a mild soap (without any harsh surfactants) if possible.   Advice:  If you are not using the ASK Cosmetics Hand & Nail Cleanser, then opt for a mild glycerin soap as glycerin is a humectant, which means it will bind water in the skin, thereby helping to reduce water loss.

Soothe your skin.....  Moisturize your hands immediately after washing them.  A good practice is to apply moisturizer after wetting and drying your hands first as the purpose of moisturizer is to lock in the water that your skin just soaked up.  At night, give your hands a good lengthy wash in warm water, towel dry, then apply your moisturizer.  Cover them with cotton gloves to lock in the ointment and wear them overnight.  Advice:  If you are not using the ASK Cosmetics Skin Conditioning Milk, then try shea butter or oil (almond or jojoba) for your night-time moisture treatment.

What you need to know about these products......  ASK Cosmetics' Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser, which is 98% milder than any baby soap on the market and formulated using succinates rather than sulfates (harsh, irritating surfactant from the salt family of chemicals).  It's gentle enough to bathe a baby, yet strong enough to get off the toughest dirt and grime from a mechanic's hands.

For optimal moisturization I would recommend the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk, which contains the 5 most important ingredients one wants in a moisturizer, among them hyaluronic acid.  It can be used head to toe as an all-over moisturizer.  Formulated without waxes and silicones it does not leave your hands (or body for that matter) with a waxy feeling and it does not strip your hands of their natural moisture factors, rather it enhances them.  An added benefit:  the Skin Conditioning Milk does not leave a "silicone glove" on your nails, which is one possible cause for yellowing, dry finger nails.

Healthy, natural, enhancing skin care does get any easier than this.

All ASK Cosmetics products can be puchased at their online shop or by calling them toll-free at 1-877-275-5566.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Lisa M

The TNT Challenge is on!

An exciting new challenge has started entitled the "Total Nail Transformation Challenge" sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada.

This photo shows the all the products included in the challenge kit, except the Skin Conditioning Milk and the Hand & Nail Cleanser were sent to the participants in the full-size bottle rather than the travel-size bottles shown here.

All participants will be applying the nailcare products provided by ASK Cosmetics for a period of 12 weeks.  In order to monitor their progress we have asked them to submit photos and a report each week.

Today I am very excited to share the first impressions which were sent to me by a nail blogger "Dragon Lady Nails" aka Kevan Johnson.

Her first update can be found in detail with fantastic photos on her blog page right here.

Kevan also wrote me a few lines describing her experience with the ASK Cosmetics products thus far and had an important question at the end:

I watched the videos on youTube about how to apply TIPS and how to use the Contour nail file. First off, I LOVE the nail file and most of the women in my family might just be getting one in their stocking for Christmas this year! After that I took your advice and use the TIPS for Toes to start. I did two coats about 30 minutes apart (before touching water). I was shocked at how fast the TIPS for Toes soaked into my nails and the surrounding skin. I was happily surprised that just one application actually soothed the raw skin and soreness of some of my torn cuticles and hangnails. I was amazed in the shower how it blocked the water from entering my nails and surrounding skin. I also used the hand and nail cleaner and conditioning skin milk. I loved how gentle they both were and how fast the skin milk absorbed and how light and non-greasy it was.

Improvements I have noticed in just 3 short days:

1. My nails actually feel stronger already – less flexible
2. No tears or breaks so far – I usually break or tear one at least once a day or so
3. None of my cuticles are hard, raw, or sore anymore and some of the hangnails have repaired themselves
I LOVE THIS STUFF! I can’t wait to take my Week 1 pictures on Friday and see the difference!! I have easily incorporated these small steps into my daily routine and am amazed at the difference already. I now do one application of TIPS for Toes after I drop my kids off at school, one during the day if I plan on my hands being wet for a long time (doing dishes, cleaning out the pond, bathing the kids, etc.), and one application right before bed so that my nails are protected if I get up in the middle of the night or forget first thing in the morning. Please let me know if there are any other specifics you would like to be getting in these weekly emails.
Also, I had someone ask me the life expectancy of the Contour nail file? She wanted to know how often they would need to be replaced. Thanks!
Sincerely,    Kevan Johnson   aka   The Dragon Lady    www.dragonladynails.com
Since the Contour Nail File by ASK Cosmetics is made of stainless steel it is extremely durable.  Some users report owning and using theirs for up to 20 years and it is still going strong.  It is designed to seal the ends of your nails with gently filing.  If the ends of your nails are sealed, they can't peel, chip or snag/catch on things like clothing or towels, etc.  This file does not fray the delicate ends of your nails and should be used several times each day to promote longer, stronger growth of your nails.  Life expectancy - most likely, forever!

Hope you are enjoying your day so far, Lisa M.

Winterizing your body

I think all of us find something very special about this season, even though umbrellas and big coats are already out in full force.  Personally, I love autumn and all it has to offer:  long, romantic walks through a forest of blazing colours, culinary treats made from squash, pumpkin and co., Halloween, the first fires in front of the fireplace and let's not forget the build-up to Christmas.  But, now it is time to seriously start thinking about our skin.

Both central heating and cooler outdoor temperatures affect our skin, hair, nails and complexion.  As you turn up the heating you will notice your skin drying out.  Unfortunately, the dry heat you get from central heating is unlike the nourishing Vitamin D filled warmth you get from the sun and, it leaves you flakey and dehydrated.

Coming in from the cold temperatures doesn't give your skin a chance to acclimatise, and likewise, jumping from a cool room into a hot shower in the mornings simply pushes your body to the edge of destruction.

So, what can we do about this?

1.)  The absolute best (and cheapest) single thing we can do is drink lots of water.  Your skin is being put under great strain, and water is the best healer.  Water will have a huge effect on the way your skin looks and feels.

2.)  Use a light exfoliator (or exfoliating mask) to keep the dry skin at bay.  It would be ideal to do this 2 - 3 times a week followed by a heavy moisturizer to replenish dry "winter" skin.  Depending on your skin type you might prefer a skin oil instead of a moisturizer cream.

3.)  If your hair is likely to suffer as well and become frizzy and unmanageable even at the best of times, then you will need a shampoo that doesn't contain any harsh surfactants.  Remember, we are really cleaning our scalps when we shampoo, and a mild shampoo would be the best way to go.

All the cosmetic products by ASK Cosmetics are enhancing for your skin, nails and hair.  They put back what nature intended to be there in the first place.  There are no harsh surfactants or waxes and silicones in their Skin Conditioning Milk or their Daily-Use Shampoo & Conditioner, because these ingredients are not natural for your hair or skin, and actually strip them of moisture.

Both the Daily-Use Shampoo and the Hand & Nail Cleanser are 98% milder than baby soaps, yet get the job done efficiently.  In fact, several of these products are multi-taskers, for example:  the Hand & Nail Cleanser is also great for removing make-up and for people with acne, eczema and very dry hands; the Skin Conditioning Milk can be used to replenish moisture from head to toe - used as a facial cream, all-over body cream, foot cream, hand lotion.  As it is gender-neutral, even the men like using it!

To find out more about the innovative technology behind the ASK Cosmetics products go to:  the ASK Cosmetics website.  All their products are available through their online shop, or by calling the company toll-free 1-877-275-5566 and ordering directly, or through QVC US & The Shopping Channel in Canada.

Do you have any good tips for winterizing your skin?

Thanks for reading and have a great day, Lisa M.

Myth-Busting Monday - Facial Cleansing

Myth:  If you clean your face better, you can clear up acne.

Fact is:  Over-cleaning your face can actually make matters worse.  You see acne is caused primarily by hormonal fluctuations that affect the oil gland, creating an environment where acne-causing bacteria can flourish.  Don't confuse scrubbing or "deep cleaning" with helping acne, beacause it absolutely doesn't.  Over-cleansing your face triggers inflammation that can actually make acne worse.  What really helps breakouts is using a gentle cleanser so you don't damage your skin's outer barrier or create inflammation, both of which hinder your skin's ability to heal and fight bacteria, along with using gentle exfoliation.  An effective exfoliating product that contains salicylic acid or glycolic acid can make all the difference in reducing acne when used with a topical disinfectant containing benzoyl peroxide.  None of these products should contain any irritating ingredients whatsoever, and particularly not alcohol, menthol, peppermint, or eucalyptus.

Over the years I have tried countless products, some expensive, others less expensive, but nothing has helped my skin more than these two products:
  • Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser - an extremely mild cleanser without harsh surfactants yet strong enough to remove all make-up in one swipe.  Recently I came home from a triathlon with black marker on my arms and legs.  This product amazed me again by removing these markings so quickly and efficiently - I can't rave enough about this cleanser.  It has also helped people with bad cases of acne.  So it can be labelled a multi-tasker - good for the entire body and very little is needed to do the job.  It is important to note that most conventional hand soaps have aqua/water listed as the first or second ingredient, whereas the Revival Hand & Nail Cleanser contains no water, but rather some of the most expensive ingredients on the market.
  • Revival Skin Conditioning Milk - a luxiurious feeling skin milk containing hylauronic acid that penetrates quickly leaving your skin with a hydrated sensation rather than a waxy film.  It is wonderful for the whole body, but I also use it on my face and it doesn't clog up my pores such as many others facial creams/lotions have done.  Recently I had one Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenger send in her update and this is what she wrote:

"Lastly, I simply LOVE the moisturizing milk and use it on my feet, arms, face, and everywhere.  It is silky and smooth and since I'm training for a full marathon walking, and I'll be walking in hot, hot temperatures and scorching sunshine, I do NOT want to plug my pores and skin and feel that the moisturizing milk provides me with moisture, without clogging waxes and silicones, while allowing my skin to do it's job."
