Linda's Nail Transformation using TIPS Nail Conditioner

Bare Naked Nail Challenge sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc.

Week 0 - Photo taken Jan. 8th, 2012.

By the picture you can see that my nails are in rough shape. I recently trimmed them as I had a couple break back at work. I would like to be able to grow them longer but have them strong enough to endure the kind of work I have to do in retail. By getting on a regular routine/schedule with T.I.P.S. Nail Conditioner I know this is possible. Looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for the opportunity.

Week 1 - Photo taken Feb. 10th, 2012.

I can start to see the progress especially around the cuticle area.  They feel moisturized and my hangnails are becoming fewer.  My nails seem to withstand the wear and tear they get at my job.  Will keep you posted.

Week 2 - Photo taken Feb. 17th, 2012.

A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes.  My nails are growing well and they feel great.  I continue to notice the soft, hydrated cuticles I have now thanks to TIPS Nail Conditioner.

Week 3 - Photo taken Feb. 27th, 2012.

Week 4 - Photo taken March 6th, 2012.

Week 5 - Photo taken March 13th, 2012.

Week 6 - Photos taken March 28th, 2012.

Here is an update on my nails.
I am really liking the fact that my nails seem to grow faster. They are unbelievably whiter and stronger. The tops of my nails are so smooth which I think is a good indication of the TIPS product (use of the Revival Skin Milk included) making them not so dry and so nice to apply polish on them. Having said this I do have to trim my nails more often but love using the file. Hope this encourages my “TIPS Family” to keep using this amazing product.

Week 7 - Photos taken April 3rd, 2012.

Here is my weekly updated picture.
As you can see my nails are very white & have grown very fast from my last picture taken just 1 week ago.  I am extremely pleased with your product and I know that it works. Consistency and patience really pays off.,,I am going to trim my nails as I find them too long for my liking so my next picture will look different as far as length goes, but I am confident my cuticles will remain the same.  Thank you for letting me share my progress.

Week 8 - Photo taken April 19th, 2012.

I have been faithfully using ASK Cosmetics products - TIPS Nail Conditioner on my finger nails since Feb. 10th, 2012.  I have found the product to be extremely successful on my cuticles & nails. My cuticles are in great shape. The surface of my nails is soft, yet the nails are strong & whiter. I found my nails growing faster also as I have had to trim them more often to a length I was comfortable with.  I plan to continue using this product.
Thank you for the opportunity for me to do so.

Let's get Kissy, shall we!

My Easy-Breezy Manicure Routine

I applied TIPS Nail Conditioner first thing in the morning followed by a pea-sized amount of Revival Skin Conditioning Milk for an extra boost of penetration and hydration for my weather-beaten hands.

Then I wait a few hours before beginning my manicure.  The reason being is that TIPS Nail Conditioner is an oil-based solution and nothing will adhere to oil, let alone have long-lasting wear.

Then I choose a polish shade that reflects my mood, or perhaps one that is on my shelf just waiting to be swatched.  On this day it was Sinful Colour's Kissy 1102.

Seen here in this photo is one coat of Kissy.  Since it was not yet opaque and the desired intensity had not been reached I continued applying this gorgeous shade.

That's better!  Wow, I love the deep, rich turquoise shade it gives you once on your nails.  However, don't be fooled by the shade in the bottle - it looks like a deep green shade until it meets your talons.

I can't write enough good things about this "gem".  It applied extremely well; the brush was super eay to work with and if this makes any sense - the formulation was very forgiving.  By this I mean it evened itself out well and you can "fix" up fast and effectively.

If I was asked to give it a mark, I would definitely grant it a huge 10!

What is your favourite among the Sinful Colours Collection(s)?

Thanks for stopping by.  Comments are always welcome.  Cheers, Lisa M.

Frequently ASKed Questions

What is T.I.P.S.™ exactly?

The abbreviated name “The Incredible Protection System” stands for the main function of our product.  T.I.P.S. Nail Conditioner is a treatment for your nails and cuticles designed to replenish the lipids, which our everyday life has stripped them of.  As the name implies T.I.P.S. protects our nails and cuticles from the damage we expose them to on a daily basis, namely: water, chemical products, harsh cleaning products, waxes as well as silicones found in numerous body care products, etc.

Products shown above available via the ASK Cosmetics e-shop.

Understanding nails better

Did you realize that.......your nail plates are actually dead cells and contrary to popular belief, they don't breathe.  However, the nail beds (or nail tissue below the nail plates) as well as the cuticles are made up of live cells and they do require oxygen, vitamins and minerals.

I have created a very simple model of how you can imagine your nail to be structured:

The straws represent the nail plate that consists of several layers of "columns" of straw-like fibers layered on top of one another.  Beneath these columns you can find the nail tissue or nail bed, as some people call it.  In this photo the nail tissue is represented by the sponge.

Healthy cuticles produce vibrant healthy-looking nails.

Before we take a closer look at the straw/sponge model, let's reflect one moment of the function of our cuticles:
1.)  They are responsible putting on the final, top layer of nail fibers.  These fibers are the most exposed layer of fibers.  They need to be healthy, strong, and we would like them to be without any ripples, ridges or unevenness - so as to create a wonderfully smooth nail.  For this reason, we highly recommend not buffing, since this practice diminishes this final, top protective layer.

2.)  Cuticles are the body's way of protecting us.  They can be likened to a protective seal put on your nail by your body.  If your cuticles are left alone, which means not pushed back, not cut or clipped, they will prevent bacteria and/or infection from entering our bodies via our nails.  For this reason, we strongly recommend leaving your cuticles alone.  That also means you shouldn't massage, rub or stimulate your cuticles in any way as this causes they to become dry and grow down your nails.

3.)  They are a good indication of our overall nail health.  It's quite a simple equation:
healthy cuticles = healthy nails.

4.)  Since cuticles are made up of hundreds of thousands of living cells it is imperative to hydrate and fortify them.  They play a very important role in pushing out the soft, new nail (that begins growing below the skin in the area between your first knuckle and the moon area of your nail).  The healthier they are, the better quality your nails will be.

As mentioned above your underlying nail tissue is like a sponge.  Seeing as our nails are 10x more porous than your skin, you can imagine how quickly water enters your nail tissue when your nails are exposed to water.  And, how many times a day do you have your hands in water?  Think about that for a moment.  Every time you expose your hands to water, this sponge-like tissue swells up and then the water evaporates out of the tissue very quickly again.  This constant swelling and shrinking is the #1 cause of dry, weak nails.

Anyone can do this experiment at home.  All you need is two pieces of dry sponge, some water and a dish to pour the water into.  It is really quite simple, yet it demonstrates so clearly what happens to our nail tissue every time we have our hands in water.

There is one product on the market that has been proven by the California Skin Research Institute to actually penetrate into your nail tissue and cuticles.  And if you consider (from the explanations above) the importance of treating your nail tissue/nail bed as well as your cuticles, then you will fully understand the uniqueness and technology behind this nail conditioner:

A simple, fast one-step daily manicure and treatment for your nails.

Some Benefits of TIPS Nail Conditioner by ASK Cosmetics Inc.

*  It is designed to replenish the lipids, which are the "cement" holding your cuticle cells and nail tissue cells together, thus creating strength and flexibility;

*It hydrates and nourishes the cuticles, that are so important in achieving and maintaining healthy nails;

*It fortifies the nail tissue, and if applied as instructed, it fills the nail tissue with lipids and hydration because it is absorbed by dry nails instantaneously. Due to its molecular structure it is the only nail treatment on the market today that, in fact, penetrates the nail plate doing its goodness to both the nail tissue and the cuticles with each application;

*It protects against the drying, weakening effects that water has on our nails by entering the nail tissue BEFORE water can get in (providing TIPS Nail Conditioner is applied before our hands are exposed to water!!).  It is immediately absorbed by the dry nail tissue, thus not allowing water to enter the nail tissue.

The TNT Challenge is on!

An exciting new challenge has started entitled the "Total Nail Transformation Challenge" sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada.

This photo shows the all the products included in the challenge kit, except the Skin Conditioning Milk and the Hand & Nail Cleanser were sent to the participants in the full-size bottle rather than the travel-size bottles shown here.

All participants will be applying the nailcare products provided by ASK Cosmetics for a period of 12 weeks.  In order to monitor their progress we have asked them to submit photos and a report each week.

Today I am very excited to share the first impressions which were sent to me by a nail blogger "Dragon Lady Nails" aka Kevan Johnson.

Her first update can be found in detail with fantastic photos on her blog page right here.

Kevan also wrote me a few lines describing her experience with the ASK Cosmetics products thus far and had an important question at the end:

I watched the videos on youTube about how to apply TIPS and how to use the Contour nail file. First off, I LOVE the nail file and most of the women in my family might just be getting one in their stocking for Christmas this year! After that I took your advice and use the TIPS for Toes to start. I did two coats about 30 minutes apart (before touching water). I was shocked at how fast the TIPS for Toes soaked into my nails and the surrounding skin. I was happily surprised that just one application actually soothed the raw skin and soreness of some of my torn cuticles and hangnails. I was amazed in the shower how it blocked the water from entering my nails and surrounding skin. I also used the hand and nail cleaner and conditioning skin milk. I loved how gentle they both were and how fast the skin milk absorbed and how light and non-greasy it was.

Improvements I have noticed in just 3 short days:

1. My nails actually feel stronger already – less flexible
2. No tears or breaks so far – I usually break or tear one at least once a day or so
3. None of my cuticles are hard, raw, or sore anymore and some of the hangnails have repaired themselves
I LOVE THIS STUFF! I can’t wait to take my Week 1 pictures on Friday and see the difference!! I have easily incorporated these small steps into my daily routine and am amazed at the difference already. I now do one application of TIPS for Toes after I drop my kids off at school, one during the day if I plan on my hands being wet for a long time (doing dishes, cleaning out the pond, bathing the kids, etc.), and one application right before bed so that my nails are protected if I get up in the middle of the night or forget first thing in the morning. Please let me know if there are any other specifics you would like to be getting in these weekly emails.
Also, I had someone ask me the life expectancy of the Contour nail file? She wanted to know how often they would need to be replaced. Thanks!
Sincerely,    Kevan Johnson   aka   The Dragon Lady    www.dragonladynails.com
Since the Contour Nail File by ASK Cosmetics is made of stainless steel it is extremely durable.  Some users report owning and using theirs for up to 20 years and it is still going strong.  It is designed to seal the ends of your nails with gently filing.  If the ends of your nails are sealed, they can't peel, chip or snag/catch on things like clothing or towels, etc.  This file does not fray the delicate ends of your nails and should be used several times each day to promote longer, stronger growth of your nails.  Life expectancy - most likely, forever!

Hope you are enjoying your day so far, Lisa M.

To Glitter or Not to Glitter

Most of us who follow various bloggers or who spend lots of time and money searching for that special polish shade know that glitter comes in countless shapes, sizes, colours and qualities.  Whereas some glitters look elegant worn alone, others really need a base shade to make them pop like they were intended to.

I think opinions are quite divided on whether to add that desired bling by adding a coat of glitter or whether to allow the polish to shine and impress on its own.  Personally, I have been fascinated by the Luxeffects by Essie worn on several different polishes - on all 10 fingers or as an accent on my ring finger.  Each time bling was added in the form of glitter I received rave reviews from my admirers.

Today I would like to show you one of the Nailwear shades that will be featured in a fantastic kit on TSC tomorrow Aug. 31st.  So all you Canadian fans and friends - you might want to check this out at 12, 4 and 7 pm EST.  It will definitely be worth your while......

Step 1:  Always coat your nails with a high quality clear base coat.  It protects your nails from the strong pigments contained in the polish (benefit of this -little or no staining) and it provides a good base on which you can then apply your polish.

Step 2:  Seen here - "Peach Opal" by ASK Cosmetics.  As the name implies it has a peachy undertone and a frosty sheen to it like no other.  Very nice as a stand-alone day-time polish.

Step 3:  After applying 2 - 3 coats of polish I always treat my cuticles with an application of TIPS Nail Conditioner.  When doing a manicure I always keep the polish well away from my cuticles as it dries them out.

2 coats of "Peach Opal" on Clear Base Coat by ASK Cosmetics and TIPS Nail Conditioner as treatment for my cuticles while wearing polish.
Joining the group now is Essie's Luxeffects - "A Cut Above" glitter to jazz up my manicure.  To be completely honest, I was somewhat nervous about combining these two shades.  Here is the result....
It is quite visible in this photo how I stay clear of my cuticles.  This product by Essie is so easy to apply and create an even look - really a dream as far as glitter is concerned.

A close-up of my thumb to show the glitter particles.

So, what you do prefer - polish alone or the special effects added to a manicure through a coat of glitter?

Hope everyone is enjoying the day!  The skies are blue and the weather is simply gorgeous in my neck of the woods.  Til next time, Lisa M.
