Azure Seas by Maybelline

An unbelievably beautiful blue!  It reminds me of wonderful vacations by the seaside and awakes a strong yearning to head to the beach.  I present "Azure Seas #990" by Maybelline to you today!

 

Seen here are 2 coats of this wonderful summery shade.  The photos I display on my blog are usually taken outside in natural light as I find it shows the polish shades closest to their appearance.  I also enjoy finding enhancing, natural backgrounds for my shots - like this one in front of one of my beautiful hosta plants.  The contrast of blue on green here really makes this polish shade come alive, don't you think?

 

 

Whether in the direct sunshine or in the shade this colour is so attractive.  The name is quite suitable and I couldn't stop comparing my nails to the colour of the water in a movie I recently watched.  Have you ever seen "Out of the Blue" starring Paul Walker, Jessica Alba and Josh Brolin?  Well, this was the very first time I saw a movie with Ms. Alba.  The jury is still out on her acting ability, but what I enjoyed most about this movie was the fantastic underwater footage and the breathtaking scenery on the waters surrounding the Bahamas.

 

This is definitely one blue that will be in my collection for a while.  The application was good as always with the Maybelline Color Show polishes.  The brush quality is normal and allows for easy application (please don't look too closely at the job I did here - two strong cups of coffee are not a good pre-requisite for an excellent mani!!)  The wear was standard as well - 5 - 6 days without any significant wear showing up.  I've tried others from the Maybelline collections before and I think they are great!  In this particular case, you get the quality you pay for.

 

Best Practice Advice:  For those of you who use TIPS Nail Conditioner or TIPS for Toes - don't forget to apply TIPS every day around your cuticles and under your natural nail.  Your newly developing nail begins to form between your first knuckle and your moons, so apply TIPS back that far as it penetrates and replenishes the nails and cuticles with essential lipids that we strip our fingers of each day.

Healthy & Enhancing Skin Care Challenge in on!

In January ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada reached out to all those who suffer from very dry, irritated skin offering them a chance to become a participant in the first skin care challenge.  They were sent an assortment of skin care products sponsored by ASK Cosmetics and were provided with detailed instructions on how to apply these items for maximum benefits.

 

Today I would like to share the first impressions after one week of applications sent to me by two participants:  Leslie and Jackie.

Hi Lisa,

I have attached a few pictures of my hands. I now have been using the products for 6 days and I can tell a difference in them.

First, my hands are not as rough as they used to be. I love the way the lotion makes my hands feel like silk after I use the product. Also, the silk feeling I think seems to last longer than using regular hand lotion.

Secondly, my knuckles have stopped bleeding. Now my hands around my fingers are still dried out and rough but nowhere near what they were a week ago.

I can't wait to see how the products continue to change the appearance of my hands. I will send you another update and pictures in another week. Also, can you use these products on your face? My face does get dry in the winter months and it's hard to keep it from drying out.

Lisa,

I've been using the products as instructed since January 31. Below are some pictures I've taken. You can visibly see that I have a split in my skin on the left side of my thumb. I also have a less severe split on my finger. I started using the TIPS for Toes on the splits several times a day and at night before bed and I have to tell you that it is remarkable. Although it doesn't have any numbing agents, the splits instantly stop hurting the moment I apply it. It absorbs quickly enough for me to apply the lotion after.

The soap leaves my hands feeling clean without over drying them. 

Now for the lotion. It is the only lotion I have ever used that thoroughly moisturizes without feeling greasy. The lotion actually absorbs completely. My hands have never been this soft and healthy in the winter. For as long as I can remember, my hands have suffered dry, cracked, painful winters. I have tried countless creams, lotions, even oils with little or no results. At night I would cover my hands in aquafor or Vaseline and sleep wearing gloves just to try to heal them for the following day. But it never failed, by night my hands were dry, cracked and painful again. Since using the Revival system, I have noticed a drastic difference. At night my hands are not dry. They keep the moisture without the grease!

The TNT Challenge is on!

An exciting new challenge has started entitled the "Total Nail Transformation Challenge" sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada. 

 

This photo shows the all the products included in the challenge kit, except the Skin Conditioning Milk and the Hand & Nail Cleanser were sent to the participants in the full-size bottle rather than the travel-size bottles shown here.

 

 

All participants will be applying the nailcare products provided by ASK Cosmetics for a period of 12 weeks.  In order to monitor their progress we have asked them to submit photos and a report each week.

 

Today I am very excited to share the first impressions which were sent to me by a nail blogger "Dragon Lady Nails" aka Kevan Johnson.

I watched the videos on youTube about how to apply TIPS and how to use the Contour nail file. First off, I LOVE the nail file and most of the women in my family might just be getting one in their stocking for Christmas this year! After that I took your advice and use the TIPS for Toes to start. I did two coats about 30 minutes apart (before touching water). I was shocked at how fast the TIPS for Toes soaked into my nails and the surrounding skin. I was happily surprised that just one application actually soothed the raw skin and soreness of some of my torn cuticles and hangnails. I was amazed in the shower how it blocked the water from entering my nails and surrounding skin. I also used the hand and nail cleaner and conditioning skin milk. I loved how gentle they both were and how fast the skin milk absorbed and how light and non-greasy it was.

 

 

Improvements I have noticed in just 3 short days:

 

1. My nails actually feel stronger already – less flexible

2. No tears or breaks so far – I usually break or tear one at least once a day or so

3. None of my cuticles are hard, raw, or sore anymore and some of the hangnails have repaired themselves

I LOVE THIS STUFF! I can’t wait to take my Week 1 pictures on Friday and see the difference!! I have easily incorporated these small steps into my daily routine and am amazed at the difference already. I now do one application of TIPS for Toes after I drop my kids off at school, one during the day if I plan on my hands being wet for a long time (doing dishes, cleaning out the pond, bathing the kids, etc.), and one application right before bed so that my nails are protected if I get up in the middle of the night or forget first thing in the morning. Since the Contour Nail File by ASK Cosmetics is made of stainless steel it is extremely durable.  Some users report owning and using theirs for up to 20 years and it is still going strong.  It is designed to seal the ends of your nails with gently filing.  If the ends of your nails are sealed, they can't peel, chip or snag/catch on things like clothing or towels, etc.  This file does not fray the delicate ends of your nails and should be used several times each day to promote longer, stronger growth of your nails.  Life expectancy - most likely, forever!

TIPS is a true multi-tasker!

From the beginning of September I have had the pleasure of taking the customer care calls at our head office in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.  The success stories I hear are so touching they send chills up and down my spine.  Sometimes I even have tears in my eyes when I hear the accounts from women, who have literally tried everything on the market to achieve those finger nails they have always longed for.  Some tell me they have been using TIPS Nail Conditioner for years, while others have only begun a few months ago.  However, all of them tell me how much they appreciate the product and the longer, stronger nails they now have.  It is so moving.

 

 

 

Well, on Oct. 3rd while I was at my desk answering the phone I received a call from a lady from Canada, who actually called to tell me about another possible use for TIPS.  As a follow-up to our interesting conversation she sent me an email, which I would like to share with you today.

 

Greetings:

Further to our telephone conversation I would like to say that I have been using your products ever since Karen first brought them to the Shopping Channel. TIPS for Toes has made an amazing improvement in the condition of my nails. For years before discovering this product, my nails broke off all the time (worse in winter), I had hangnails and split cuticles, and for years one nail had a split from the cuticle to the end and always broke off to the quick of my finger -- not a pretty sight.

 

However, there was a dramatic change when I started using TIPS for Toes on my nails and now I have no hangnails and, with your Contour nail file, all my nails are the same shape and I am very happy with the look of my hands.

 

Another reason for contacting you is to pose a suggestion for another use for this wonderful product. Because I have many allergies, I am unable to use any type of eye serum or eye cream, even though they are advertised as being fully tested for allergies . I've tried them all, but soon experience itching, tearing, redness and sandy dry eyes. One morning, however, I had applied my TIPS while sitting on the side of my bed and because my eyes felt dry and itchy, I began rubbing them before massaging the TIPS formula on my hands. When I realized what I had done, I was a little worried, but to my surprise the itching and dryness felt actually better. Now as part of my morning routine I repeat this every day and my eyelashes are more silky and my eyes are never dry or red.

My question and suggestion for your consideration is to possibly put this formula in a wand to be applied to eyelashes much like mascara or to prepare them for mascara. I am certain that anyone using it would be absolutely thrilled with the results.

Winterizing your body

I think all of us find something very special about this season, even though umbrellas and big coats are already out in full force.  Personally, I love autumn and all it has to offer:  long, romantic walks through a forest of blazing colours, culinary treats made from squash, pumpkin and co., Halloween, the first fires in front of the fireplace and let's not forget the build-up to Christmas.  But, now it is time to seriously start thinking about our skin.

 

Both central heating and cooler outdoor temperatures affect our skin, hair, nails and complexion.  As you turn up the heating you will notice your skin drying out.  Unfortunately, the dry heat you get from central heating is unlike the nourishing Vitamin D filled warmth you get from the sun and, it leaves you flakey and dehydrated.

 

Coming in from the cold temperatures doesn't give your skin a chance to acclimatise, and likewise, jumping from a cool room into a hot shower in the mornings simply pushes your body to the edge of destruction.

So, what can we do about this?

1.)  The absolute best (and cheapest) single thing we can do is drink lots of water.  Your skin is being put under great strain, and water is the best healer.  Water will have a huge effect on the way your skin looks and feels.

 

2.)  Use a light exfoliator (or exfoliating mask) to keep the dry skin at bay.  It would be ideal to do this 2 - 3 times a week followed by a heavy moisturizer to replenish dry "winter" skin.  Depending on your skin type you might prefer a skin oil instead of a moisturizer cream.

 

3.)  If your hair is likely to suffer as well and become frizzy and unmanageable even at the best of times, then you will need a shampoo that doesn't contain any harsh surfactants.  Remember, we are really cleaning our scalps when we shampoo, and a mild shampoo would be the best way to go.

Transformation from embarrassing to amazing, healthy-looking toe nails

As many of you know ASK Cosmetics has staged their first ever Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenge, which is coming to an end after running for approx. 12 weeks now.  At the beginning participants were asked to submit weekly updates of their progress accompanied by photo documentation.  Various age groups, professions and toe nail conditions were represented in this adventure. 

One challenger, who I met at a social media conference in March, is an avid marathon runner.  She heard me talking about this upcoming event and inquired if this may be something that would help her toe nails.  Absolutely, was my answer!

We can all imagine who much wear and tear a person's toe nails have to endure if they are pounding the pavement in socks and running shoes day after day while training.  Well today, I am so pleased to show you Dorothy's summary of her Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenge experience.

Hi,

As the challenge ends I must say that I am very impressed with the product and will continue to use it.  I'm also going to get one of the nail files you demonstrate online -- they look wonderful.

Here's what happened to my nails:

• yellow colour -- gone!
• brittle, flaking edges -- gone!
• ridges -- not gone, but greatly improved!
• the little toes were like "bunches of nail" -- now look like real nails!
• dull, overall colour -- now healthy!
• thick nails -- not gone, but getting better (suspect they will look better as new nail grows in)!

TIPS and Revival Skin Milk to the rescue!

Elena’s story - How ASK Cosmetics' products helped her get rid of a skin break-out she has had for many years

Since Elena was 9 years old she has been having regular “eczema-like” breakouts once a year.  In particular her right hand is affected when she is under more stress than usual or when she wears latex gloves.   For some reason this condition often happens at the onset of spring and summer.

Elena explains that it is really uncomfortable for her to show her hands during this time, as people might look at her hands and think she has a disease and it could be contagious.  She feels very embarrassed when she has to shake someone’s hand or even show her hands when these breakouts occur.

The first photo of Elena’s hand was taken June 5^th, 2012 after the breakout had started approx. June 1^st.  As you can see from this shot mainly her thumb, pointer finger and middle finger are affected.  The area looks extremely de-hydrated and the ends of her fingers suffer the most.

These photos were taken June 5th before Elena started applying TIPS for Toes and the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk to her affected right hand.

When this eczema-like breakout happens Elena’s skin turns hard, then it starts cracking.  Sometimes little bumps filled with water, that are very itchy, appear on her skin.  It takes about 2 days for the skin to begin peeling.  After that her skin is tight and pulls.  The sensitivity in her affected fingers decreases with each breakout.  She actually loses sensation in those fingers.  After each episode her fingers feel more callused, rougher and the skin is harder, less soft.

If she has a really severe bout her fingers get warm, become swollen, even inflamed.  She also experiences a beating or pulsating feeling in them.

In the past Elena has tried using greasy creams to help soften the skin up.  She has purchased “rich” hand creams with a high factor of moisturization, however in most cases her skin felt even itchier after applying them to the peeling areas.  I explained to her that was due to the waxes and silicones found in those skin lotions/creams she had used. 

You see, any skin products with waxes and silicones act as solvents stripping your hands/skin of moisture and create a waxy film on your hands.   

Beginning on June 5^th Elena started applying TIPS for Toes on her badly affected areas, especially the thumb, pointer and middle fingers on her right hand, followed by a small amount of the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk.  She did this twice a day.

She noticed immediately that the skin on her right hand became softer and felt “nourished”.  It was healing really fast.  Elena had the feeling that the skin had a stronger texture and the irritating bumps had disappeared.

I met with Elena on June 14^th, at which time we took some after photos of her right hand.  She was absolutely thrilled with the results.  There was a tremendous improvement in the feeling, texture and appearance of both hands, but in particular the right hand.

She also told me that she had been washing dishes the night before and felt the irritating bumps developing again.  So, she applied TIPS for Toes and the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk in the evening before going to bed and the bumps did not develop over night.
